Committees & Other Opportunities
Community Service Committee
The WiB Community Service Committee brings together individuals who are passionate about giving back. The group volunteers throughout Amherst at places such as the Not Bread Alone Soup Kitchen, the Amherst Survival Center, and local schools.
Throughout the year, we fundraise for the UMass Miracle Hospitals and volunteer at the Dance Marathon each Spring. This committee is a great way to meet people in WiB as it is a smaller group within the bigger club.
Fundraising Committee
Fundraising committee is a passionate group who comes together to put on fantastic fundraisers. In the committee we plan and organize events to raise money for WIB and external charities. Our committee members are creative, innovative, and dedicated. If this sounds like you, this committee is the place to be. In fundraising we help develop leadership skills, time management and organizational skills as well make strong relations within the committee and WIB.
This past fall semester we raised over $1,000 in our fundraisers and hope to continue that growth. Charities we've raised money for in the past have been Protect Our Breasts, Feeding America, Alex’s Lemonade Stand for Childhood Cancer, and more. We've also done pizza deliveries and sold merch to raise money for our club. We are always open to new ideas and growing the community.
Marketing Committee
The Marketing Committee works to get its members involved with marketing through our various subcommittees and informational meetings. The Social Media Subcommittee posts on the Instagram and TikTok pages, the Blog Subcommittee writes blog articles for our website, the Spotify Subcommittee creates playlists for the Spotify account, and the Podcast Subcommittee helps work behind the scenes for our podcast, Out of Office!
In our meetings we discuss helpful information to help our members navigate the marketing field with internships, careers in marketing, and hearing from guest speakers such as alums and marketing professionals. Being apart of the committee is a great way to make new friends, and gain real life marketing experiences to add to your resume!
Peer Mentorship
The Peer Mentorship Program is a unique community open to anyone in WiB that currently has over 100 members and has continued to grow. In this program, mentees are diligently paired with older WiB members who share a similar area of study, interests & hobbies, goals, and more! Our mentors have an abundance of advice and insight, and it is a rewarding experience for everybody involved!
Sign-ups open at the beginning of each semester for roughly 1 week and then it is locked until the Fall when membership resets. We hold about 3 events per semester and some of our past events include a virtual escape room, academic advising help / class registration Q&A, and a game night.
It not only looks great on your resume, but is a fantastic way to become more involved and make lifelong friendships with empowering and passionate women! If you want to help others succeed and have fun doing it, this is where you belong!
Professional Events
Professional events is dedicated to planning and executive workshops, information sessions, networking trips and many more professional development activities for our WiB members.
Some of our favorite events that go on through the year are our Etiquette Dinner at the UMass hotel where participants learn how to eat a three course meal properly, as well as our Boston Networking Trip in the Spring. Information regarding these events is distributed in our weekly emails and meetings.
Social Events
Social events is dedicated to bringing our members together for fun and meaningful events and building a community within WiB. We love planning events and watching them grow from ideas to reality, making lasting friendships and memories along the way. Some of our favorite events from the fall semester were our Yoga & Coffee Bar in the Isenberg Hub and WiB Apple Picking at Kielbasa Orchards.
